People demonstrated against death penalty in Sanandaj

According to the association in defense of political prisoners and human rights in Iran today Tuesday 17/July/2007, hundreds of demonstrators from the city of Sanandaj and surrounding villages’ attended a protest demonstration to save Mosleh’s life from death sentence.

To protest against death penalty and upon request from the newly formed “Committee to Save Mosleh’s life” today 17/July/2007 a group of civil rights activists, along with Mosleh’s family and hundreds of people from the city of Sanandaj and surrounding villages gathered in front of judiciary building in Sanandaj.

Protesters were carrying placards demanding the abrogation of death penalty against Mosleh Zamani. To defend Mosleh the representatives of the Committee met with judicial authorities.

Police and security services threatened the Committee’s activist and other demonstrators and tried to disperse the demonstration.

Until this moment the pressure against the demonstrators has continued. The committee demands the abrogation of death penalty against Mosleh who is a 17 years old youth which was arrested with his girl friend. According to review of branch 27 of tribunal court and based upon article 105 of Islamic penal system, Mosleh was sentenced to death by hanging. He has served 4 years in prison since his arrest.

In today’s demonstration Mosleh’s parent were shedding tears and were crying for help from the world’s community to help saving their son. The committee to save Mohsen’s life urgently asks political parties, human rights organizations, legal entities and mass media to help us save Mohsen’s life.

The society in defense of political prisoners and human rights in Iran declares its opposition to death penalty and demands the abrogation of hanging sentence of Mosleh and asks all the defenders of human rights, United Nations, Amnesty international, political parties and news media to support the campaign to save Mohsen’s life.
